Style: On2 (with lots of Afro-Cuban dance, such as rumba/guaguancó)
Masacote Dance Company was founded in 2003 by husband and wife team Joel and Ana Masacote. Since then, it has become one of the most famous and in-demand salsa dance companies in the world (you might even describe them as legendary)! Ana and Joel aren’t out social dancing in the local scene as much as the other Boston regulars, but that’s only because they’re always traveling around the world giving performances and teaching workshops all year round!
Masacote Dance Company is best known for its truly unique and cutting-edge salsa performances, such as Take Five, which is a salsa-based dance invented by Ana and Joel that is in 5/4 time (instead of salsa’s 4/4 time) and is danced on beat 5!. Joel is also a jazz musician, and creates some of the songs that Masacote performs to.
